Israel has provided Moscow with documents and pictures that prove Hizbullah used Russian weapons intended for the Syrian army during the month-long war in Lebanon, according to a report published Sunday. An Israeli delegation presented the evidence during a recent visit to Moscow, said the report in the nation's second-largest Maariv daily, quoting unnamed top security officials.
"Photographs of entire rockets, boxes and many rocket packages were shown to the Russians, including bills of lading from Russia that confirm that these are Russian-made rockets intended for shipment to the Syrian army," it said.
"Jerusalem officials hope that President (Vladimir) Putin will draw the necessary conclusions and stop supplying rockets and ammunition to Syria immediately," it said, adding that an arms shipment is due to arrive in Syria from Russia over the next several weeks.
Israeli officials have repeatedly said Hizubllah got top Russian military equipment by way of Syria, but Moscow has vehemently denied the charge.
"Our system of control over arms exports is among the most reliable, and excludes any possibility of arms winding up somewhere other than where they were intended," the foreign ministry said on August 10.
Iran and Syria are considered the main backers of Hizubllah, though both deny supplying the group with weapons.
