NATO Finances Project In The Dead Sea Area

Salt, Feb. 2 (Petra - Jordan News Agency) -- Al Balqaa' Applied University, in cooperation with a number of international and local organizations is currently implementing a project which is financed by the NATO to evaluate the sinkhole hazard in the Dead Sea Area. Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Abdullah Zoubi, said that the main objective of this study is to introduce the importance of the Dead Sea area and its inverse effect overall area, in addition to show the importance of the Red Sea-Dead Sea Canal. Zoubi also noted to the dangers of the drop of the Dead Sea level which will include the loss of all kinds of plants and animals as well as loosing the fresh groundwater and the beauty of the Dead Sea. For his part, President of Al Balqaa' Applied University Dr. Omar Al Rimawi said during a field visit to the Dead Sea Area that the university welcomes the scientific cooperation with all international reputed universities and institutions. He also emphasized that this cooperation will enrich the university with the modern technology which makes it a leading university in solving all the scientific and environmental problems nationally and in the Arab World. The project director in NATO, Dr. Christian Camerlynk said that Al Balqaa' Applied University was provided by a modern French instruments such as Electron Magnetic and resistively meter and NMR. "Field studies have been carried out which enriched our knowledge with the reasons caused the Sinkhole which lead to agriculture field damage in the Ghoul Hadetha Area" Camerlynk added.
