Sharon Hears Praise From The World, Concern From Army

While international leaders stroked Prime Minister Ariel Sharon Tuesday for his disengagement plan, the head of army intelligence warned of a resurgence of terrorism by the spring.
IDF Intelligence branch chief Maj.-Gen Aharon Ze'evi Farkash told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that if the diplomatic process did not go according to the Palestinians' liking, there might be a resurgence of Palestinian terrorism by April.
Farkash said that the Palestinians were continuing to manufacture arms inside Gaza, and that terrorist organizations in the West Bank were trying to build up their strength. He said that from Israel's point of view, this was a "ticking time-bomb."
According to Farkash, the Palestinian Authority was trying to ensure quiet during the withdrawal, but was still not willing to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. Despite the PA's interest in maintaining quiet, he expressed concern that one of the Palestinian terrorist groups might fire Kassam rockets at the withdrawing troops.
