IDF Spokesman's Office Breaks Off E-Mail Distribution Of Announcements To Press For Week
2005-06-26
[IMRA: The IDF Spokesperson's Office told IMRA today that they will have no way to send their announcements via e-mail during an upgrade. They will not even be able to send a single message to the Israel Government Press Office - that frequently forwards important IDF announcements to the journalists on their distribution list.
While some announcements will appear, with considerable delay, on the IDF website, some of the most detailed and important information that is provided as "background information" and used intensively by journalists will not be on the website.
It should be noted that while they will fax announcements to journalists who request them, that in today's "cut and paste" environment, providing information via fax that has to be retyped in order to be used significantly reduces the odds that the information will be incorporated into reports being submitted by journalists working under deadline (not to mention frequently on the road and not near their fax machine).
It remains a mystery why one of the most technologically advanced armies in the world is unable to figure out a way to temporarily send an e-mail from the IDF to Israel Government Press Office via alternative means (laptop and telephone hook-up anyone?).]
IDF Spokesperson's Office
Dear Sir/Madam,
Due to a technological upgrade of the mailing system, over the course of the next week, unfortunately we will not be able to distribute IDF Spokesperson announcements and updates via the E-mail.
To receive our press releases by fax, please contact IDF Spokesperson's News-Desk at 03-6080245/248.
