[IMRA: Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan would like to serve as a "neutral" intermediary between Israel and the Palestinians. That's "neutrally" siding with the Palestinians.]
ANKARA, May04, 2005 (IPC+WAFA) [Official PA website]-The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Yayyeb Erdogan, told his ruling party members (Justice and Development Party) Tuesday that the Palestinian territories look like a 'prison', Palestine News Agency (WAFA) reported.
PM Erdogan's observation came during his latest official visit to Palestine, where he watched out closely the latest developments on the ground in the shadow of the Israeli occupation.
Mr. Erdogan made clear that his country's foreign policy has been acting according to the historic and geographic requirements and that it has set the neighboring countries as its first priority.
Along with visiting Palestine, PM Erdogan had also visited Israel and met with Israeli officials including Silvan Shalom, the Foreign Minister, who opposed any peace initiatives by Turkey, allowing Turkish economic and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians only.
Earlier this week, Premier Erdogan visited the Palestinian territories and met with President Abbas in the West Bank City of Ramallah.
