Ministry Of Defense: PA Can Hold Onto Anti-Aircraft Missiles - For The Time Being
2005-03-27
Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told the weekly cabinet meeting today that Palestinian Authority military intelligence agents were involved in recent attempts to smuggle anti-aircraft missiles into Gaza.
Mofaz said the Palestinians had crossed a red line, adding that Israel demanded the PA work to prevent such efforts and locate any missiles that may already be in the Gaza Strip.
IMRA asked Shiri Eden, deputy media advisor to Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz, what Israel wants the PA to do with the missiles once it locates them - hold onto them, destroy them or transfer them to a third party.
Eden replied that, for the time being, it would suffice if the PA held onto the missiles.
IMRA pointed out that according to Minister Mofaz, the PA itself was involved in smuggling the missiles but Eden reconfirmed that Israel's concern for the time being was only that the PA take possession of the missiles.
It should be pointed out that while it is indeed Purim in Jerusalem today that the above is not a parody.
