Palestinian Authority security forces in the Gaza Strip on Saturday arrested three top officials of a Palestinian faction that had claimed responsibility for an attack on Israel Defense Forces soldiers but then released the men five hours later.
The PA believes the members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine were involved in the Thursday attack that wounded two IDF soldiers near the Gush Katif junction. A Palestinian militant was killed by soldiers' return fire in the incident.
Saleh Zeidan, a DFLP official, accused Palestinian officials of caving in to Israeli pressure when they arrested Issam Abu Daqqa, Talal abu Zarifa and Ziyad Jarjhoun, three members of the group's central committee in the southern Gaza refugee camp of Khan Yunis.
PA police ordered other DFLP members to report for interrogations, Israel Radio reported.
An IDF position near the Gaza Strip settlement of Neve Dekalim came under fire Saturday morning, Israel Radio reported. No one was injured in the incident.
