Interview: PLC Member Abdul Karim Musalam: Israel Can Imprison Anyone Who Attacks Now
2005-02-08
Abdul Karim Musalam (Abu Salah) is a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) representing the Khan Younis District. He is a member of Fatah and serves on the PLC Legal Committee.
IMRA spoke with Abdul Karim Musalam via telephone this evening (with thanks to Dr. Michael Widlanski for providing translation from Arabic):
IMRA: Now that the intifada has been declared to be over at the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit today, if someone carries out an attack tomorrow does he has a different status than someone who carried out an attacks before? If he is captured by Israel can he be sentenced and imprisoned by Israel or will the PA demand his release?
Abdul Karim Musalam: The Palestinians desire peace and anybody who commits violence now will be considered to be committing terrorism. We desire freedom and we desire peace. We established a hudna with Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the forces of the left and anyone who carries out an operation now is doing it on his own. This means that anyone who does something like this is a terrorist and his actions are terror.
Yes - they have the right to capture anyone who carries out an attack.
IMRA: And sentence them to a prison term and keep them in prison?
Abdul Karim Musalam: If somebody carries out such an operation then Israel has that right.
