Resistance Committees: People who side with the Reforms are "Traitors"

Popular resistance committees, which constitute one of the biggest umbrella organizations for terrorists in the Gaza strip, have come out openly and firmly against the reforms in the Palestinian Authority which America and Israel demand (27 September 2002). In an official statement, the popular resistance committees, whose leadership includes senior leaders in the PA security forces and the Fatah movement, called for "the Palestinian people and forces working in it should prevent the alternate leadership ( i.e. Abu-Massan, Nebil-Amar and others, who criticized the adoption of terror by the P.A. and Arafat) from carrying out the goals which America and Israel want carried out". The statement emphasized the popular resistance committees resolve "to continue the struggle in all ways as the only way.to implement the forceful return of [Palestinian] rights". In this connection, "the popular resistance committee praised Hizbollah and its leader Hassan Nassrallah for the support parade held during the Intifada which was carried out on the streets of Beirut on the 27 September 2002.

Comments:

The popular resistance committees' official statement illustrates the dissent in the ranks of Fatah and their apparent opposition to the security and economic reforms even after 2 years of Intifada insurgence. The committees threaten to condemn the senior Palestinian and Fatah leaders, who support an end to terror, as "traitors". Two months ago, Yassar Zanon, a senior leader on the popular resistance committee, accused the P.L.O. deputy (Muhammad Abas) as being responsible for one of the biggest betrayal cases to date. This comment was in reference to his diplomatic position in the negotiations which brought about the "Oslo Accords". This terrorist organization which works with other terrorist organizations in the Gaza strip (Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Popular Front and others) continue to perpetrate acts of terror against Israeli Civilians including suicide Bombings inside Israel.
